Jamie Goldmans' invitational jump jam, UDUG went down today in Bend Oregon. The event was witnessed only by the riders themselves, a few bike enthusiasts and shop owners from town, and some of Jamie's curious neighbors. It was a low key jam with some world class riding. All the riders were stoked on the course, and were able to put together some big runs for the event.
Mitch Chubey- 1st Place "Jamie Goldman put together a sick course in his backyard, I wish I had something to ride like this at home! I can't believe I won, it feel like it has been a long time coming and I am pumped!'
Cam McCaul- 2nd Place "This is one of the best Jump Jams I have ever been to. The course is flowy and fun, the jumps are big, but the landings are forgiving, so you are able to do your hardest tricks in the middle of the rhythm section and keep going." "The comp is over, but we are not done yet, we are going to keep riding this line until it is dark!"
Tyler McCaul- 3rd Place "Contests that are put on by riders are always the best, and the most fun for riders to compete in, and this was a good ol' time. Props to Chubey because he killed it."
Each rider had 3 runs through the course, and were judged on their best one. Cam McCaul was the first rider to drop, and he did not waste any time. He had a big run that included a front flip half way through the line, and a downside 3 whip on the last jump, along with multiple barspins, and tailwhips in classic Cam style. Tyler McCaul also had a solid run and gave his brother a run for his money by also sticking a downside 3 whip on the last jump. Mitch Chubey came out swinging though, and put together a huge run with a 360 to opposite 360, and a big flip whip on the last jump. He also threw in a few tech moves on the smaller jumps, including a tail whip over the set up spine at the top of the course, and a barspin off the step down leading in to the final jump. He was the only rider to trick that feature. Some of the other stand out tricks included Sam Dueck's double whips, Carson Storch's 720 on the last jump and Anthony Messere's flip whips and dumped 360's. Jordie Lunn and Anthony Messere both tried to stick the tricks they had done the night before in the Best Trick comp, (Anthony landed a flip double whip and Jordie stuck a flip 360), but neither were successful.
The UDUG was a huge success and everyone who came out to ride had a great time. After the "official" competition was over the session lasted well into the evening. Big thanks to Jamie Goldman for putting this event together, and an even bigger thanks to Adrienne for letting us invade her house, use her bathroom, and crash out on the floor!
